Social Work

B.A.

Social Work majors become generalist professionals who carry out the mandates of the social work profession with a diversity of client systems and with the most vulnerable members of society. With a focus on the urban environment, the program seeks to develop generalist practitioners who:

  • have a passion and a calling for the profession;
  • understand and adhere to social work ethics and values;
  • exhibit respect for diversity, and demonstrate cultural awareness and competency;
  • advocate for social and economic justice; *contribute to and influence policy and research; and *engage in lifelong learning.

Sociology

B.A.

Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. Since all human behavior is social, the subject matter of sociology ranges from the intimate family to the hostile mob; from organized crime to religious cults; from the divisions of race, gender and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture; and from the sociology of work to the sociology of sports. Because sociology addresses the most challenging issues of our time, it is a rapidly expanding field whose potential is increasingly tapped by those who craft policies and create programs.

Spanish

B.A.

Spanish majors take courses in language at all levels taught by native speakers, and classes in the literature, culture and histories of the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking worlds.  The program also takes advantage of the linguistic and cultural diversity of Newark/New York and the surrounding areas in its course offerings, internships, field trips and experiential learning opportunities.

Supply Chain Management

B.S.

Supply Chain Management is how business gets done. Supply chain management spans all movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods from point-of-origin to point-of-consumption. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Supply Chain Management is projected to be one of the fastest growing industries in recent years.

Video Production

B.A.

The Video Production Program offers a broad range of technical and media studies courses that place emphasis on creative production, academic scholarship, and media literacy. Students take a core curriculum with courses in the history of film and video, journalism, new media, critical studies, and intensive video production.

Women's and Gender Studies

B.A.

Women’s and Gender Studies develops, through interdisciplinary study, critical thinking, research, and writing skills for majors and minors who specialize in the field of gender and sexuality studies.  Students take a combination of core courses that introduce them to foundational ideas in the field and elective courses that allow them to experience how the field frames more traditional disciplines.  The connection between reading, writing, and oral communication in the presentation of ideas is continually emphasized and reinforced in all of the course content.
